Furthermore it became fully assessed by the citizens and students of Jaffna. The Jaffna library was enclosed to the community by the Mayor of Jaffana Alfred Doreyappa.

Who was brutally murdered by the L.T.T.E. s. Narasiman from Madras, India is the architect who designed the complex. Thus he was advised by the Indian librarian S.R Raganathan. Both of them initiated to set up the building in to a international standard library. As a result of that the library became very famous among both local and foreign people. Before the destruction there were important palm leaf manufactures regarding the political and religious rational of ancient sri lanka. The damaged dome was with holes made by shell bullets. The destroyed books and epics included works of writers and dramatists who made a significant change towards the Tamil culture. Apart from that the articles written by Ananda Coomaraswamy and Prof. Dr. Isaac Thambiah were destroyed. But no one has been proclaimed the crimes hidden in the episode. It is said that over 97000 books were in use before the deprivation.
Anyway within a one year and after the disaster, the library was reopened. A statue of Saraswathi is placed in front of the complex. It is a must say that the community helped a lot with donations to the library. Yet the black July begun in 1983, the building was abandoned with shells and bombs. The Black July consummation is a tragic in ancient sri lankan history. The late President Chandrika Bandaranayke revamp the library again, with the support of Tamil people and international donations. At that time there were over 20000 books were collected. In so far as the reopening ceremony was opposed by the L.T.T.E in 2003. Therefore it was scheduled to be opened and handed over to the public in 2004. Currently the library is open to all the citizens as well as tourists.
